Winter Weather

Citizens are required to remove all snow and ice accumulations from the sidewalks abutting his or her property or the city's contractor will do so and a fee will be assessed.

Also, it is unlawful to blow, push, or throw snow and ice accumulations from the driveway or sidewalk onto the street. Doing so can result in a fine.

If accumulations of four or more inches of ice and/or snow occur at one time, the Mayor or a designee may call a snow emergency. During a snow emergency, citizens must remove all vehicles from the streets of Carter Lake for the designated time period or the vehicles will be towed at the owner's expense.

Snow emergencies are declared through television stations: KETV, KMTV, WOWT, and radio stations: KFAB, WOW, and KESY.

These ordinances are in place for everyone's safety in getting around when there is snow or ice on the ground.  Please clear your snow and ice promptly.

School Cancellations

If school is canceled due to inclement weather, notice will be given on local radio and television stations. Please do not call school for this information.
