Garbage Regulations
Garbage pick-up day is Wednesday, items must be at the curb by 6:00 a.m. We have mandatory recycling - blue bin provided by the garbage company - recycling of plastics, aluminum cans, tin cans and newspapers. All items must be rinsed out. Also newspapers must be in a paper bag. All items are to be placed in the blue bin.
Bins are available at City Hall, 950 Locust Street, Carter Lake, IA.
Carter Lake has separate yard waste pick-up. Yard waste includes grass clippings and leaves. Garden and flower waste can be put in with regular trash. Branches cut in 4 foot lengths and bundled will be picked up with regular trash. Yard waste must be placed in a container or in paper biodegradable bags (not a plastic bag) and marked with YW.
Regular trash may be placed in containers or trash bags.
Recyclables, yard waste, and regular trash are all picked up by separate trucks that come at separate times during the day, but all on Wednesday.
Yard waste is picked up each week from April 1 to November 30.
Community clean-ups are held twice a year; once in the spring and once in the
fall. At that time many items can be disposed of, except toxic waste, paints, batteries, etc. Advertisements for this are published a few weeks before.
For a complaint about garbage or if you are missed on collection day call the contractor -Papillion Sanitation at
(402) 346-7800.
If you are disabled or over 70 years old and have nobody else that is able living in your household, you can apply for special services at City Hall so you will not have to bring your trash to the curb.
The following is a list of holidays that would make the collection day be one day late:
New Year 's Day
Independence Day
Christmas Day
Memorial Day
Labor Day
Inclement weather may also make pickup late. This is usually announced on local television news.
