Tourist Information

Nestled inside its oxbow-shaped lake namesake, the city of Carter Lake stands unique among Iowa cities as the only Iowa city west of the Missouri River. The over 3,000 residents of Carter Lake, Iowa, are surrounded on three sides by Omaha, Nebraska and its fourth boundary, the Missouri River. This gives our fair city the advantage of small town friendliness and the convenience of nearby big city attractions and shopping. (Map)

Fun in the sun on Carter Lake. Onshore can be seen some new shorefront housing and the Shoreline Golf Course.

Within the city, visitors and residents alike enjoy the closeness to the water with boating, fishing and skiing on the 300+ acre Carter Lake with dockside access in the newly remodeled Mabrey Park. (Map)

Right along the lake is the 18-hole Shoreline Golf Course, and the Blue Waters Mini-Golf miniature golf course is just down the street offering another 18 holes of fun.

For those wishing to spend a few extra days enjoying the Carter Lake area, the city boosts a number of hotels in its immediate area and Omaha's Eppley Airfield is just minutes away.

Omaha's downtown is just minutes away from Carter Lake.

Along with Carter Lake's own attractions, the city is just a few minutes from Omaha's Old Market District and downtown area, the Joslyn Art Museum, and Omaha Children's Museum.

Rosenblatt Stadium, home of both the Omaha Royals and the College World Series, is just 15 minutes from Carter Lake. Across from the stadium is Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo, covering 130 acres and exhibiting over 19,000 animals.

Carter Lake is within 6 minutes (2.9 miles) of the new Qwest Convention Center and Arena.  This $291 million dollar development contains over 1,000,000 square feet, including a 194,000 square foot exhibition hall, over 62,000 square feet of meeting space and a 17,000 seat arena.  This facility is located on the Missouri River.

On the other side of the river, Carter Lake is just 7 minutes from Council Bluffs' three casinos: Ameristar, Harrah's Bluffs Run and Harrah's Council Bluffs.

Whether you're just visiting the Omaha area or looking for a unique place to live, Carter Lake, Iowa offers many exciting opportunities.
