The CLCRC is a City Department that focuses on increasing youth involvement in pro-social activities and adult involvement in community-wide crime prevention efforts within the City. Components of the department include the youth leadership program, publication of the Inside Carter Lake, community education and enrichment classes, Citizens Patrol, CLCRC Advisory Board, Peace Builders, Community Parade and Festival, and family events

The youth leadership program is open to Carter Lake youth in grades 6-12. The youth program focuses on life skills, character development, and leadership training. The youth also plan and participate in community service projects and youth events. Some of their past activities and community service projects include: Nacho Ordinary Christmas, leaf raking, adopt-a-street, spaghetti slop-fest, horseback riding, ice skating, Senior From for Senior Citizens, and over-night retreat. The youth are divided into three different groups. Leaders in Training is for sixth graders. Leaders in Action is for seventh and eighth graders and Youth Leaders is for 9th - 12th grade students. Meetings are weekly for each group. Youth may join the program by contacting the director.

Inside Carter Lake, is the community newsletter that is published monthly. The newsletter includes information on activities and events offered throughout the community by the CLCRC, the city, the school and other various groups and organizations.

Community education and enrichment classes are held during the year and are organized by CLCRC. Classes are held in the evenings and have included CPS crafts, computers, and parenting. Class schedules are advertised in the Inside Carter Lake. A minimal fee is charged for each class. GED is also offered each fall and spring

Citizens Patrol is composed of concerned citizens using their eyes and ears to seek out, identify, and inform 911 of any and all emergencies, dangers, and suspicious activity. Our Citizens Patrol is a positive step that the City of Carter Lake is taking to establish a solid working relationship with the police, and help themselves by helping the police.

The CLCRC Advisory Board advises the department and assists in community prevention efforts. The board is comprised of Carter Lake citizens, State and City government officials, youth, and CLCRC staff. Contact the Director if you are interested in serving on this Board.

The CLCRC also coordinates the Community Parade and Festival which is held each June. This is a community-wide effort with all Carter Lake organizations, churches, and citizens working together for this fun community day.

If you are interested in any of CLCRC's projects or board, please call (712) 347-6006.
